The Office of Civil Defense is working closely with Phivolcs to assess the possibility of extending the Kanlaon Permanent Danger Zone to 10 kilometers, said Regional Director Raul Fernandez of OCD. This extension is being considered in case of a worst-case scenario; Fernandez explained. He also revealed that the cities of Himamaylan and Kabankalan have expressed their willingness to accommodate evacuees from La Castellana if the entire town is affected by mudflows and ashfall from Kanlaon.
These cities are closer to La Castellana than the Panaad Stadium, which the provincial government has also been preparing as an evacuation center. Himamaylan City has set up an evacuation center in Barangay 3. Fernandez added that so far, no lahar flow has been reported by the affected local government units , only mudflows and ashfall. Meanwhile, Fernandez revealed that the OCD has requested an additional P500 million in quick response funds for 21 days from the Office of the President .
