Occidental Mindoro, Philippines: The provincial government of Occidental Mindoro adopted a compressed work week arrangement starting Monday, Nov. 6, to conserve energy as the power rate almost doubled from P12.24 per kilowatt-hour to P21.83 kWh.
Governor Eduardo Gadiano said that provincial government offices will be open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Monday to Thursday. However, provincial/district/ community hospitals, jails, general services office, provincial disaster risk reduction and management office, and other frontline offices are not covered by the order.
National government agencies and courts are also not covered but may adopt the same policy.The new system aims to reduce the energy consumption of the provincial government to save on electricity and to protect the environment.Gadiano ordered that all air conditioning units, water dispensers and other electrical equipment shall be turned off and unplugged after office hours and during weekends.
