MANILA—The number of residents who were injured after a pair of moderately strong earthquakes hit Itbayat town, Batanes, on Saturday is now at 100, the provincial governor said.
Asked if she will declare a state of calamity in the province, Gov. Marilou Cayco said she is "considering" it.
"Tingnan muna namin . . . How far 'yung nasira, 'yung napinsala doon. Then saka kami mag-meeting, para mag-declare kami ng state of calamity," Cayco told ANC. Two earthquakes in the magnitude-5 range hit the northern islands on the same day. The first one registered at 5.4 struck at 4:16 a.m. at a depth of 12 km northeast of Itbayat town.Several aftershocks followed, the Phivolcs said, but were mostly inconsequential.
