The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority on Tuesday said the number coding scheme will be lifted earlier than scheduled this Holy Week.Instead of Maundy Thursday, March 28, number coding will be lifted starting Holy Wednesday, March 27, and will last until Good Friday, March 29, according to MMDA General Manager Procopio Lipana on Super Radyo dzBB.There is no number coding during Saturdays and Sundays.
The scheme, formally known as the Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program , bars vehicles on EDSA and other thoroughfares in the National Capital Region one day a week during the hours of 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., depending on the last number of their license plate.Vehicles with license plates ending in 1 and 2 must obey the prohibition on Monday; vehicles with license plates ending in 3 and 4 on Tuesday; 5 and 6 on Wednesday; 7 and 8 on Thursday; and 9 and 0 on Friday.
