The implementation of the expanded number coding scheme in the National Capital Region (NCR) will be back on Tuesday, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said Monday.
In a press briefing, MMDA acting chairman Romando Artes said the agency would no longer extend the suspension of the number coding due to the heavy traffic it caused amid the week-long transport strike.
“Ang pamunuan po ng MMDA ay nag-decide na hindi na po palawakin 'yung number coding scheme suspension ,” he said.as a group of jeepney operators and drivers start their week-long transport holiday to protest the public utility vehicle Modernization Program. According to Artes, they noticed that vehicular traffic got heavier on Monday that resulted in the slow turnaround time of public utility vehicles.MMDA General Manager Undersecretary Procopio Lipana said only 88 of 1,600 augmented vehicles have been dispatched to cater to passengers affected by the strike. —
