The government is investigating whether it will install signs to warn drivers earlier, as the current sensors are too close to the tunnel entrance – meaning if a truck is over height it is too late to be diverted elsewhere.The NSW state government is conducting a police blitz on trucks driving through tunnels over the height limit across Sydney.
"If we can warn those truck drivers prior to getting to those critical points and they self-divert... that will save that situation for everybody," Transport for NSW director Craig Moran said."Some of these drivers need to get the message," Graham said. "Police will be out pursuing this sort of behaviour... we need to because of the inconvenience it's causing to drivers."
Recently a truck driver was fined $4097, lost 12 demerit points and had his license suspended for 24 hours after he triggered an over-height alarm heading into the General Holmes Drive tunnel.Continue reading
