BACOLOD CITY – A New People’s Army rebel was killed in an encounter with government forces in Sitio Manaysay, Barangay Cambayobo, Calatrava, Negros Occidental on Wednesday, May 22.

According to the Army 3rd Infantry Division, the 79th Infantry Battalion and the 3rd Mobile Platoon of the 1st Negros Occidental Provincial Mobile Force were conducting a Joint Enhanced Military and Police Operations in response to a report from residents on the alleged presence of about seven remnants of the Northern Negros Front Komiteng Rehiyon-Negros, Cebu, Bohol, Siquijor in the area when the encounter broke out around 3:55 p.m.
