Houston was speaking from his home in rural Pictou County where he said roads have been washed out and “an incredible amount” of trees and power poles were down. A request to the federal government for federal disaster assistance funding also has been made. This funding helps municipalities with damage from flooding, washed out roads and other infrastructure, and can help people and small businesses pay for uninsured losses, the release said.During the news conference, Lohr said federal Public Safety Minister Bill Blair has assured him the disaster relief money and military assistance would be coming “very quickly.

“It’s turned out to be everything that’s been predicted and it’s affected people across the province.”from the storm but Fiona has left hundreds homeless in other locations such as HRM. Two apartment buildings were damaged so badly tenants had to be evacuated.
