NorthPort has tapped the services of Australian Venky Jois as its import for the PBA Commissioner's Cup, which will kick off the league's 48th season on November 5.
Listed at 6-foot-9, Jois played college basketball for Eastern Washington University in the US before building a professional basketball career overseas.The 30-year-old power forward played in Estonia, Croatia, Japan, Germany, New Zealand, Serbia and Slovenia before seeing action recently with the North-West Tasmania Thunder in the Australian National Basketball League .Jois averaged 16.3 points, 7.9 rebounds and 2.6 assists for NW Tasmania in the 2023 NBL season.
NorthPort coach Bonnie Tan described their incoming import as a 'team player.'The Batang Pier are coming off another losing season after posting a woeful 12-22 win-loss record in the 2022-23 PBA season.NorthPort failed to make the playoffs in the Philippine Cup and Governors' Cup after posting a combined 6-16 card in those two conferences.
