Residents in southern Ontario were treated to another rare display of northern lights late Sunday night and early Monday morning.
when a moderate solar flare “erupted from the sun expelling a billion tons of superheated magnetized gas from the sun known as plasma.”
Solar flares are an intense burst of radiation coming from the release of magnetic energy associated with sunspots,This ejection on Sunday travelled at nearly two million miles per hour, said NOAA, and reached Earth in two days. It was visible predominantly in the northern tier of the United States and across Canada.
One twitter user in London called it an “epic night” and shared images taken between midnight and 2:30 a.m.As of Monday, the NOAA said the “beautiful aurora” is winding down, based on solar wind measurements.
