Seoul, South Korea – Kim Jong Un vowed that North Korea’s nuclear programme would continue “indefinitely”, state-run media reported Wednesday, days after new US President Donald Trump said he would make renewed diplomatic overtures to the reclusive leader.
The report, and Kim’s nuclear factory visit, follow Pyongyang’s test-firing on Saturday of sea-to-surface strategic guided cruise missiles, its first weapons test since Trump returned to the White House on January 20. The two Koreas remain technically at war since the 1950-1953 conflict ended in an armistice, not a peace treaty.

Trump Says He'll Reach Out to Kim Jong Un Again, Calling Him 'a Smart Guy'Former US President Donald Trump stated in a recent interview that he would reach out to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un again, describing Kim as 'a smart guy.' This follows a period of unusual diplomatic engagement between Trump and Kim during his presidency, marked by three meetings. However, these efforts did not result in any lasting agreement to denuclearize North Korea. Trump's stance contrasts with that of his former Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, who labeled Kim a 'dictator' and called for a comprehensive review of North Korean policies.
