Former Speaker of the House Bronwyn Bishop says the AUKUS submarine agreement was the “most important thing” accomplished by the Morrison government.

She said there was “nobody happier on the planet” than her when former prime minister Scott Morrison made the deal with the United States and the United Kingdom to build nuclear submarines.

“It is essential that this happens so there can be no weasel words, no backing and filling by either the defence minister or the prime minister,” Ms Bishop told Sky News Australia.
