CEBU has no election areas of concerns for the midterm polls on May 12, 2025, according to a police official. However, the Philippine National Police has identified 14 local government units in Negros Oriental and two in Bohol as election hotspots, according to Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan, the newly installed director of the Police Regional Office 7. Maranan revealed these information in a press conference with Cebu City Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia at the City Hall on Monday morning, Jan. 27.

He plans to personally oversee the implementation of security programs in hotspot areas, citing the Teves group in Negros Oriental as a particular concern. He is referring to the group of former lawmaker Arnolfo Teves Jr., who is accused of being the mastermind behind the assassination of Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo in 2023.The regional director said he will also hold police commanders accountable for their performance in securing their areas.
