Sa kondisyon na mapapanatili pa rin ang "historical significance" ng Ninoy Aquino Day , iniutos ni Pangulong Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., na iusog ang naturang non-working holiday sa Agosto 23, 2024 sa halip na Agosto 21 .
Nakapaloob ang kautusan sa Proclamation No. 665, para sa "long weekend" na makatutulong sa domestic tourism dahil papatak din na regular holiday ang Agosto 26 , na National Heroes' Day. Ginugunita tuwing Agosto 21 ang pagkamatay ni dating Senador Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr., na pinaslang sa tarmac ng Manila International Airport noong 1983, na kilala na ngayon bilang Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
“In order to provide for a longer weekend thereby promoting domestic tourism, the celebration of Ninoy Aquino Day may be moved from 21 August 2024 to 23 August 2024 , provided that the historical significance of Ninoy Aquino Day is maintained,” saad ni Marcos sa Proclamation No. 665. Inaatasan sa proklamasyon ang Department of Labor and Employment na magpalabas ng kaukulang alituntunin para maipatupad ang kautusan maging sa pribadong sektor. —FRJ, GMA Integrated News
