Deputy Majority Leader and Ang Probinsyano party-list Rep.

Alfred de los Santos on Monday said that buying buffer stocks from local farmers in the provinces is the best way to ensure rice supply.'What the National Food Authority can still do is maintain its own NFA buffer stocks. It should be in preparation for the lean months from late June to mid-September,' de los Santos said.'The NFA must source its buffer stocks primarily and directly from local rice farmers and cooperatives,' he added.

It might even cause some fish kills and the blooming of red tide algae. He said that the way forward is to teach rice importers and consumers the importance of maintaining a balance between rice supply and demand.'It must also be impressed upon rice importers that the national government still has enough police and administrative powers to crack down on hoarding, smuggling, price manipulation, and economic sabotage,' de los Santos said.
