ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — The Newfoundland and Labrador government wants to hear from the public on several changes being considered to legislation on tobacco product sales.

An engageNL questionnaire, to be made available in early June, will survey the public, industry representatives, and health care organizations on variety of topics including: prohibiting the sale of tobacco to persons born after a certain date; increasing the legal age to purchase tobacco products to 21; and prohibiting sales of tobacco through vending machines.

“We all know that tobacco and nicotine use has widely been connected to cancer, respiratory illness, and other adverse health impacts,” said Health Minister Tom Osborne. The department will be hosting separate invitation-only virtual sessions for certain stakeholder groups, such as industry and business owners and related health care associations and organizations.Anyone requiring an alternate format or who would prefer to provide a written submission is asked to contact [email protected] has been our privilege to have the trust and support of our East Coast communities for the last 200 years.
