New South Wales Police have stepped in to investigate how a child was stabbed by a used needle inside a public restroom at Port Macquarie over the weekend.
The eight-year-old boy had spent the Sunday morning with his family and friends at the popular Wayne Richards bike track before going to the toilet just before midday.
"Unfortunately the needle went all the way in. It's actually bent the needle and he came out of the bathroom with the needle hanging from his finger," he said.The boy's father has shared the story hoping to educate others to throw used needles in disposal bins, especially at parks where children are around.
In this case, it would most likely be the council's duty of care to ensure sharp wastes are disposed of appropriately to avoid public health risks.In April, a local rugby league club demanded Lismore City Council to step up its support to clean up a park after more and more needles were spotted.
