Thousands of officers in Victoria will receive the devices under a new $214 million deal.
They will be linked to officers' body cameras, which will activate when the taser is drawn. The rollout is expected to begin in late November, with the Special Operations Group, Critical Incident Response Team, and officers at 36 regional stations the first to get the new tasers.Police at Dandenong and Springvale stations will be the first Melbourne general duties officers to get tasers.
The new devices will be accompanied by special training, including instruction on when a taser can be drawn."Frontline policing can be dangerous and unpredictable and these devices give our officers another option when dealing with high-risk, volatile situations," Chief Commissioner Shane Patton said.
