BACOLOD CITY: Negros Oriental Governor Carlo Jorge 'Guido' Reyes died of terminal illness at a hospital in Metro Manila on Wednesday. May 31, an official from the Provincial Capitol said.
Atty. Karen Molas, provincial administrator, confirmed that Reyes succumbed to a terminal illness while being treated at St. Luke's Hospital.Reyes was 62.Molas said it was Reyes' daughter who informed her of the governor's passing.
Reyes took over the gubernatorial position after Governor Roel Degamo was killed inside his residential compound in Pamplona on March 4.Reyes was elected as vice governor during the May 9, 2022 elections where he ran in tandem with Degamo.Molas said she will inform Vice Governor Manuel 'Chago' Sagarbarria of the governor's death and turn over documents.Sagarbarria is set to take his oath Wednesday afternoon.
