The Regional Joint Security Control Center (RJSCC) in the Negros Island Region will reassess areas of concern for the upcoming May 12 elections after the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) national office identified some municipalities as areas of concern. Provincial Comelec Supervisor Atty. Ian Lee Ananoria stated that they will conduct a reassessment to ensure the safety and security of the elections in the region.
The Regional Joint Security Control Center ( RJSCC ) in the Negros Island Region will re-evaluate areas of concern for the upcoming May 12 elections, according to Provincial Comelec Supervisor Atty. Ian Lee Ananoria. Ananoria stated, 'It's something we will discuss with the RJSCC because we have already declared Negros Occidental as under the green or peaceful category, in coordination with the PNP and the AFP.
' This statement comes in response to the recent announcement by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) national office, which released a list of local government units (LGUs) identified as areas of concern for the elections. Two municipalities in Negros Occidental were classified in the yellow category, and three in the orange category. Ananoria said, 'Perhaps they have their own criteria or different reports that they received. We will conduct a reassessment of the report,' emphasizing that the findings will guide further policymaking. As of now, Ananoria has not yet received a copy of the national report. COMELEC has identified the towns of Calatrava, Cauayan, and Sipalay City as being in the orange category, while the towns of Isabela and San Enrique were classified under the yellow category. Ananoria explained that the yellow category typically refers to areas with intense political rivalry or the presence of NPA rebel remnants, while the orange category encompasses both those parameters, and the green category is designated for peaceful areas. The RJSCC will meet in the next two weeks to reassess the security situation in the Negros Island Region (NIR). Ananoria declined to comment further on the national office's statement at this time. Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, commenting over the weekend, said that, of the LGUs in the list, 'only Calatrava may be a concern, not because of political rivalry, but due to the presence of rebel remnants.' 'Isabela and San Enrique are considered close battles, but these two LGUs have managed to have peaceful elections,' the governor noted. Regarding Sipalay City, Lacson added, 'It’s as peaceful as it can be.' (TDE
