Hundreds of bus services are being cancelled across Sydney every day as the city faces a critical bus driver shortage.
Private bus operator Keolis Downer cancelled 489 bus services in the Northern Beaches in just five days at the end of last month, according to a leaked document acquired by 9News.
Staff turnover and job vacancies are a major issue as bus drivers are "fed up" with the poor pay and long hours, the Rail, Tram and Bus Union said."When they took over from state transit, the government-owned body, the sponge was dry, now they continue to squeeze the sponge and the sponge is falling apart," Tram and Bus Division President of the Rail, Tram and Bus Union Peter Grech said.
Buses in the Hills district and the North Shore arrived on time approximately 94 per cent of the time.
