The National Bureau of Investigation in Central Visayas (NBI-7) recovered over 200 mobile phones, SIM cards, chargers, and Indonesian passports during the forced opening of three vaults seized from an alleged illegal Philippine offshore gaming operations (POGO) hub. The items will be used as evidence in a qualified human trafficking case against 17 individuals arrested in August.

CEBU CITY — The National Bureau of Investigation in Central Visayas recovered more than 200 mobile phones, SIM cards, chargers and Indonesian passports during the forced opening of three vaults on Thursday.The vaults were confiscated during a raid on an alleged illegal Philippine offshore gaming operations hub in Barangay Agus, Lapu-Lapu City, on Aug. 31, 2024.

The bureau suspects the phones were used for money laundering, illegal gambling and other fraudulent activities, including investment and romance scams.In addition to examining the gadgets, NBI-7 is collaborating with the Department of the Interior and Local Government and the Bureau of Internal Revenue .The DILG is looking into possible local government involvement in the illegal POGO activities, while the BIR is investigating potential tax violations.
