Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., chief implementer of National Task Force (NTF) against coronavirus disease (COVID-19), applauded on May 10, Sunday, the local government units (LGUs) of Davao City in Region 11 and the entire Caraga (Region 13) for its efforts to contain the deadly illness.
At the same time, Galvez met with Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, Butuan Mayor Ronnie Lagnada, Agusan del Norte Governor Dale Corvera, and 2nd District Representative Maria Angelica Rosedell Amante-Matba to discuss ways on how to further strengthen the capacity of LGUs to curb the spread of the virus in the southern side of the country.
The meeting was held at the Southern Philippines Medical Center , which was then the sole COVID-19 testing center in Mindanao. At present, another testing facility has been established and already operational in Zamboanga City. Of these, Duterte said 10,000 test kits will be allotted for Davao City while 2,500 each will be given to the local governments of Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao de Oro, and Davao Oriental.
Galvez also led the inspection of the unloading of personal protective equipment sets from a Philippine Navy ship, which was docked at Sasa Wharf. The vessel fetched 200,000 PPE sets and 700,000 KN95 masks from Xiamen, China recently.
