Television host Joey De Leon of the noontime show “E.A.T.” has found himself in hot water for what some netizens perceive as an “insensitive” comment during a segment of the show. The incident has prompted an outcry from viewers, with many calling for a thorough investigation into the matter.
The controversy began during a segment of “E.A.T.” in which a contestant was tasked with thinking of items that could be placed around a person’s neck. When the contestant struggled to come up with an answer, De Leon butted in and twice suggested the word “lubid” . It was the veteran’s host’s choice of words that quickly drew criticism from netizens. Many argued that by mentioning “rope” in the context of an item that can be placed around a person’s neck, De Leon was making an inappropriate reference to suicide. This interpretation of his comment led to widespread outrage on social media.
As the controversy continued to gain traction online, netizens took to various platforms to express their concerns. Many demanded that the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board Chair, Lala Sotto, intervene and address the matter promptly. In response to the mounting pressure, the MTRCB released an official statement regarding the incident., the agency said, “Taking cognizance of the complaints from the viewing public in relation to ‘E.A.T.’ Gimme 5 segment aired last 23 September 2023, the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board shall determine if the same are valid and presumably violative of Presidential Decree No. 1986 and/or its Implementing Rules and Regulations.
