After 30 years serving in the House of Commons and Senate, Michel Patrice, deputy House clerk of administration, has decided to call it a career. Newly elected House Speaker Greg Fergus, who has served in Parliament since the 2015 election, recognized Patrice in the House on Oct. 5 for his lengthy tenure on Parliament Hill.

Kayabaga, who's family fled the Burundian civil war when she was 11, became the first Black woman ever to be elected to city council in London, Ont., in 2018. She was then elected into Parliament in 2021, winning roughly 37 per cent of the vote over Conservative candidate Rob Flack.
