Shadow Home Affairs Minister Kristina Keneally says Scott Morrison has “once again” mocked the needs of the Pacific nations after the Prime Minister criticised Labor’s plan to boost ABC Pacific presence.

“Here we have Mr Morrison mocking the need to send Australian voices and Australian information into a region that is suffering from disinformation and propaganda being broadcast by the Chinese,” Ms Keneally told Sky News Australia.

“We know that over the last few years, as Mr Morrison cancelled shortwave radio services and cut back on Australian broadcasting into the Pacific, the Chinese have moved in doing English language broadcasting on television and on radio. “Mr Morrison misunderstands the challenges that Pacific nations are facing when it comes to this misinformation.”
