Abreanna GoodrichThe expanded Balikatan military exercises between the US and Philippine militaries that will be launched today will be “more complex” and operations driven.
It will also be first time that the Philippine Coast Guard will join Balikatan, according to Philippine Coast Guard spokesperson Rear Admiral Armando Balilo. The US, on the other hand, will deploy its fifth generation F-22 “Raptor,” the F-35 “Lightning II,” AH 64 “Apache” attack helicopters, AC-130 “Spooky” gunships, and at least two naval ships.
Balikatan is a demonstration of combat readiness and interoperability with the Philippines’ treaty allies such as the United States, Australia, France, and other Southeast Asian nations.
