MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Information and Communications Technology said that building more cell towers is the key to improving internet service especially for households. DICT Undersecretary Paul Joseph Mercado said that a dense network of cell towers is crucial for optimal internet connectivity.Mercado explained that the required density of cell towers varies with the technology used.

'It depends on their radius. If more are within the radius, these can cover over 4,000 households,' he said.To improve connectivity, the DICT is considering building more cell sites this year. Paraiso said that to provide better internet, over 30,000 new cell sites will be needed.The agency said there are only 12,000 independent common cell towers, with the majority owned by private telecommunications companies.
