Exclusive: national survey of young people also finds fewer than half used a condom during their most recent sexual experience
More young Australians are sexually active than in previous years and while many of them report positive experiences, a national survey of high school students found condom use is falling and there are still high rates of unwanted sex.on Thursday published findings of its survey of 6,841 students from years 9 to 12 in government, Catholic and independent schools throughout 2021.
Of the year 10 students surveyed, 43% reported being sexually experienced or active, compared with 68.9% of those in year 12. This compared with 34.3% and 55.8% respectively in 2018, and 22.9% and 48.8% in 1992. More than one-third young people said they had experienced unwanted sex during their life. Trans and non-binary young people and young women were more likely to report that they had experienced unwanted sex than young men .
