Mitsubishi reveals D:X Concept at 2023 Japan Mobility Show
The manufacturer revealed the D:X Concept at the 2023 Japan Mobility Show, which is basically a concept study of an electrified people mover with off-road capability.
Mitsubishi says the D:X Concept combines the “convenience and cabin space of an MPV with the superb road handling of an SUV”, and it shows in the way the exterior was designed. The “Dynamic Shield” design language is carried over, and the D:X Concept sports T-shaped LED lighting units both in front and the rear. Meanwhile, the bulky overfenders and large-diameter tires make the D:X Concept a muscular people-mover.
Inside, the front seats can swivel backward so the occupants can enjoy a conversation during breaks, while the rest can also move up and down for maximum versatility. The see-through hood and large windows convey a sense of openness, giving what Mitsubishi says is ”an unprecedented driving experience as if floating in the air”. Cabin amenities include a voice-interactive AI for the infotainment system, tan-colored genuine leather seats, as well as a sound system developed with Yamaha.
As for the D:X Concept's propulsion, Mitsubishi has decided to give it an environment-friendly plug-in hybrid system. The electric 4WD system has an integrated S-AWC or Super All Wheel Control system to provide peace of mind and superior driving dynamics in any kind of road condition. For now, the Delica D:5 remains as Mitsubishi's RHD-only people mover offering. But while the D:X Concept may still be years away from making it to production, its designer Seiji Watanabe said there will be an LHD version of the MPV.
