SEN. Cynthia Villar anchors her opposition to the absolute divorce bill on her having a happy family. Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri likewise celebrated his being pro-family and used it to broadcast his nay vote, ahead of any debate, on the proposal that had already passed the House of Representatives.
This is not the firsttime that a divorce bill has passed the House, and we don't need the Senate to once again derail its final passage for the second time. It's time to call out any opposition to divorce that is anchored on this very selfish attitude from Senators whose privilege of being in happy families is being brandished as the only reality that every Filipino experiences.These senators were elected not to represent their interests or valorize their privileged lives.
It is, therefore, likely that the majority of the single mothers reported to be 95 percent of the total number of single parents in 2024 would be women who are separated and used to be in consensual relationships.
