Cyrille Payumo, Miss Charm Philippines, has apologized for wearing Catriona Gray's Miss Universe farewell gown at the Miss Universe Philippines - Pampanga pageant, sparking mixed reactions and debate.
Cyrille Payumo, the reigning Miss Charm Philippines , has issued an apology after facing backlash for wearing Catriona Gray 's Miss Universe farewell gown at the recent Miss Universe Philippines - Pampanga pageant. On Instagram, Payumo explained that she was informed by Mak Tumang , a renowned Filipino designer, that he would sponsor her final walk gown for the competition.
One of the options presented to her was the gown Catriona Gray wore during her farewell walk as Miss Universe 2018, a choice she ultimately made. Payumo expressed the overwhelming emotions she felt, describing a sense of excitement, nerves, and profound honor. She acknowledged the significance of the gown and the privilege of wearing it. However, she also recognized that her decision sparked divided opinions and expressed remorse for any unintentional diminishment of Catriona Gray's achievements. Payingumo clarified her intentions, stating that her goal was to honor the victory of bringing the Miss Charm PH title to her hometown and celebrate Mak's artistry. She deeply apologized for any misunderstandings or hurt feelings caused by her actions, emphasizing that causing pain was never her intention. The experience, she said, has been a time of reflection and learning, and she expressed gratitude for understanding during this period. Payumo was crowned Miss Charm Philippines in May last year and has previously competed in Binibining Pilipinas 2022
