CEBU CITY – Workers in Central Visayas will receive higher wages beginning October 2.
The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board here approved a wage increase ranging from P33 to P43 on Monday, September 16.Several reasons were cited when the RTWPB decided to approve the wage increase. A finding from the Philippine Statistics Authority showing that the poverty threshold of a family of five living in Central Visayas is already at P473 was also cited for the need to increase workers’ pay.
Under the new rates, minimum wage in Class A areas in Central Visayas – Carcar, Cebu, Danao, Lapulapu, Mandaue, Naga, Talisay, and the municipalities of Compostela, Consolacion, Cordova, Liloan, Minglanilla, and San Fernando, was pegged at P501. Workers in Class B areas Bais, Bayawan, Canlaon, Dumaguete, Guihulngan, Tagbilaran, Tanjay, and Toledo cities will receive P463 per day while the rest will get a salary of P453 daily.
The RTWPB clarified that establishments with more than 10 regular employees, and those adversely affected by natural calamities or human-induced disasters, are exempted from the new daily minimum wage. The wage hike came after the RTWPB approved a P33 increase for daily minimum wage earners in October 2023.
