Several celebrities are also in the list of top local YouTube content creators who made their big breakout this year including Maja Salvador, Jako Roberto, Regine Velasquez, and Jennylyn Mercado, among others.was able to speak with Mervin Wenke, Head of Communications and Public Affairs of Google Philippines, who said that the Philippines is one of the biggest YouTube markets not only in the region but also in the world.
“We can attribute it in terms of the rise of digital media, the availability of the platform, the infrastructure, and the rise of mobile penetration so all these things come into play. YouTube being the go-to platform nowadays encourages people to consume the video and in the process it has become a cycle,” Wenke said.
“From being a viewer or consumer, it has come to a point now that the journey includes being a content creator now,” he added.
