Hiked fines for federal offences, including failure to lodge tax returns, will come into effect when the clock strikes midnight on Saturday.will increase the cost of a Commonwealth penalty unit from $222 to $275.
The cost will be indexed each of the next three years in line with inflation, with the next hike due at the start of the next financial year in July.It was first unveiled in the Albanese Government’s first budget, handed down in October.
