The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) will provide a free live screening in its military bases of the highly-anticipated boxing match between fighting Senator Manny Pacquiao and undefeated American fighter Keith Thurman in Las Vegas, Nevada on Sunday (Manila time).
In a statement, General Benjamin Madrigal, AFP Chief-of-Staff, said the screening will allow soldiers and their dependents “to show their support for the eight-division champion,” who is also a Philippine Army reservist.
“Senator Pacquiao’s hardwork, perseverance and excellence in both boxing and public service have inspired our soldiers and we hope that this gesture will further motivate our men and women to continue to do the same for their country,” he added. Meanwhile, the Philippine Army will allocate three venues for viewing in its military base in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City — the Ricarte Hall of the Army Clubhouse, Multipurpose Hall of the Army Hospital, and the Army Wellness Center.
Wounded and recovering soldiers will also get the chance to watch the bout as the AFP Medical Center in Quezon City offers to air the fight in its auditorium for free.
