Three terror suspects were killed while five soldiers were injured after the military figured in two armed encounters against the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) in Patikul, Sulu on Saturday.
Lieutenant General Cirilito Sobejana, commander of the Western Mindanao Command , said combat troops of the 21st Infantry Battalion under the 1101st Infantry Brigade of the 11th Infantry Division clashed with around 20 fully-armed terrorists led by ASG sub-group leader Ellam Nasirin in Sitio Tubig Paliya, Barangay Danag at 10:44 a.m.
A one-hour firefight ensued before the terrorists finally scampered towards different directions, Sobejana said. Meanwhile, the soldiers who sustained slight wounds were brought to Kuta Heneral Teodulfo Bautista Station Hospital for treatment.
