LUCENA CITY, Quezon — Shoppers in a big mall here were treated with a joyful ‘Dragon and Lions’ dance on a festive Sunday coinciding with the celebration of the Chinese Year.
The Dragon and Lion dancers roamed around at SM City mall and entered all tenant’s places, looking for the ‘ampao,’ a red small envelope with cash inside and placed somewhere. Chinese and Filipino residents in this city and nearby towns gathered at the Prosperity Bazar where they can buy lucky charms, repellent, and protection against the evil spirit. The bazaar will last until Jan. 29.
While Dragon and Lions were going around dancing to the sound of drums and cymbals, mall goers marveled at the high-headed leaping of the dragon and the lion. At the mall atrium was a big billboard bearing the Chinese zodiac. Revelers welcome the Year of the Rabbit.
