MANILA, Philippines — The Manila Electric Company reminded the public to observe safety measures as preparations for New Year festivities went in full swing. Meralco Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications Joe Zaldarriaga said that Meralco 's crew would remain on standby 24/7 to keep the lights on for its 8 million customers.
To ensure a bright, merry, and accident-free New Year celebration, Meralco asked the public to: Light fireworks and pyrotechnics away from electrical facilities and decorations to avoid power outages and accidents; Stay clear of power lines when using party items such as party poppers and balloons since these can cause power outages; Have a fire extinguisher on standby, especially when using firecrackers to ring in the New Year, as these can come into contact with flammable materials.
