The Meralco Bolts look to sustain their impressive start to the new year in the PBA Season 49 Commissioner's Cup despite facing tough matchups against TNT and NorthPort.

The Bolts started their busy schedule with a challenging win against Eastern, but they anticipate a tough matchup against the well-rested Tropang Giga in the main event at 7:30 p.m. The recharged Meralco aims to maintain its impressive start to the new year despite facing TNT on Tuesday, January 7, at the PhilSports Arena. This game is part of a demanding three-game week for the Bolts in the PBA Season 49 Commissioner’s Cup.

The night kicks off with a matchup between Terrafirma and Phoenix, two teams hoping to improve their standings. A week-long break seems to have benefited Meralco, as it welcomed back key players just in time for their crucial games against TNT and the league-leading NorthPort. Despite the challenging schedule, head coach Luigi Trillo remains confident in his team, especially after their resilience last month when they played in both the PBA and EASL with a depleted roster due to injuries. “Every game this week will be tough, you have TNT and then NorthPort, but we've been going through some difficult times,” said Trillo. “Our last two games, two losses, we had eight players injured. Akil (Mitchell) is injured, DJ (Kennedy) was injured, and six of our locals were injured, and those six, they have minutes,” he added. The Bolts ended their December schedule with a winning record of 3-2. Fortunately, reinforcements have arrived for Meralco with big men Raymond Almazan and Brandon Bates returning to support Mitchell, who is still recovering from a broken nose
