Geoff Martinson is soft-selling his chances of finally breaking through this year for that elusive first win at the Vancouver Sun Run.
“I’m definitely not in as good a shape as previous years,” says Martinson, a Prince George native who finished his schooling a year ago and has been working as a pharmacy resident around Metro Vancouver the last several months. Martinson says he is only doing about 50 to 60 per cent of the training a normal elite runner would typically do, although he still gets out five to six days a week. And here is the warning for those he lines up against in the Sun Run: he also complained last year that his full-time studies at UBC and practicum placements in Port Alberni and Oliver in the two months prior to the 2018 Sun Run had compromised his training.
