Melaka couple in the dock, accused of hatching egg scam

ALOR GAJAH: A married couple has claimed trial at a Magistrate's Court here for alleged impersonation and fraud in the sale of eggs.

Mohamed Hafiz Ibrahim and his wife Hafiezah Roslan, both 35, entered a plea of not guilty before Magistrate Nurul Bahiyah Kamaluddin on Wednesday .

On the first charge, they allegedly cheated a trader by the name of Muhammad Syafiq Bashir Ahmed, 32, to supply 4,245 trays of chicken eggs that prompted the victim to deposit a total of RM52,990 into their account.The couple was charged with an offence under Section 417 of the Penal Code for cheating, which carries a maximum five-year jail term or fine or both upon conviction.

Intan Hafiezah was also charged for having possession of the RM3,000 without a valid reason between Dec 16 and Dec 21. She faced charges under Section 29 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 which carries a maximum RM1,000 fine or one year's jail or both, upon conviction.Article type: free
