San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora on Thursday backed the national government’s plan to downgrade the alert level status of Metro Manila to 2 as the number of active cases in the region continues to decline.

“As of today, San Juan City only has 110 active cases of COVID-19. From a high of 1,123 last September 16, we have seen a sharp decline of 90 percent in just 43 days,” Zamora said.

According to the OCTA research group on Tuesday, Metro Manila is now tagged as low-risk for COVID-19 due to the high rate of vaccination among its residents. The seven-day case average in the National Capital Region went down to 901 this week from the 1,405 recorded the previous week, OCTA’s Dr. Guido David said on Twitter.

Zamora reminded his constituents that in case of a shift to Alert Level 2, they must still observe the proper health and safety protocols mandated by the government and businesses must adhere to the capacity and operational guidelines under Alert Level 2. As of October 24, San Juan has already vaccinated 197,949 residents with their first dose, and 176,573 with their second dose.
