The typhoon spotted east of Mindanao will likely turn into a super typhoon before entering the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Monday.

Weather specialist Obet Badrina said that typhoon Mawar was located 2,330 kilometers east of Mindanao and moving west-northwest at 15 kilometers per hour .'Mawar' had maximum sustained winds of 130 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 160 kph, Badrina said.He said the typhoon will possibly enter PAR on Friday but it will not directly affect the country.

In the meantime, the southwesterly surface wind flow is affecting the western sections of Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.'We can expect generally fair weather over the next 24 hours across the country but there would be occasional downpours and thunderstorms especially during afternoon and at night,' Badrina said.Metro Manila and the rest of the country will likely have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
