MANILA — The Marikina City government said Wednesday it would release additional funds to provide aid for all 135,000 households that need help in the city amid the COVID-19 crisis.
This as social amelioration funds from the national government could only cover around half of the identified families in need of help, said Marikina City Mayor Marcy Teodoro.
The city government earlier released cash assistance and food packs to vulnerable sectors such as those in the shoe manufacturing industry and workers in malls and public transport who have lost their livelihood amid the Luzon-wide lockdown. “Ita-target namin kung sino talaga 'yung mangangailangan dun, poorest of the poor, na kailangang tulungan na di maaabot ng DSWD,” Teodoro said.
The mayor asked for patience from his constituents as not everyone will receive aid at the same time.
