President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. on Friday, May 26, 2023, leads the commissioning of the two FAIC-M Shaldag Mark V missile-capable patrol gunboats from Israel during the celebration of the Philippine Navy's 125th anniversary. These new patrol gunboats are part of the nine fast craft ordered by the government in 2019 for P10 billion for the Horizon 2 List of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Modernization Program.
[We use them for patrolling, not only in the West Philippine Sea but also for civil defense. Like now, what we are discussing and preparing for is the typhoon.] [Since they have already [been] commissioned, we will include them in our inventory of naval assets used both for defense from external forces and also for civil defense ... in assisting in disasters occurring in the Philippines.]
