PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Thursday said he was open to calling a special session of Congress to proceed with the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte should the Senate request it.

The statement from the Palace came after the Senate adjourned its sessions without tackling the impeachment complaint endorsed by the House of Representatives on Wednesday.In a press conference in Malacañang, Marcos said there was no formal request yet from the Senate to tackle Duterte's impeachment.'If the senators ask for this, yes. Again, they will decide. We did not decide this,' the president told reporters.

Marcos also maintained that the executive branch had 'no role' in the impeachment process.He said that both the House of Representatives and the Senate had no choice but to address the impeachment complaints.'The executive cannot have a hand in the impeachment. The executive does not have a role in the impeachment,' the president told reporters.'Once the impeachment complaints were filed, the House and the Senate, they had no choice. Their hands are tied.
