WASHINGTON, D.C.: President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is not too keen on reimposing mandatory mask-wearing amid the new surge of Covid-19 infections, preferring instead to ramp up vaccination efforts to arrest the spread of the virus. READ HERE:

'We will have to conduct again, especially for young people. We'll have to conduct again a vaccination push,' Marcos said during a brief interview Sunday onboard the chartered Philippine Airlines flight that ferried him and his delegation to the US.While the positivity rate for Covid-19 increased, the 'baseline still remains low,' he said. The Chief Executive hopes that the new wave of infections will not cause him to reimpose the mask mandate.

'Let's see if there will be guidance by the Inter-Agency Task Force on the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases, if there will be guidance by the Department of Health. I hope we don't have to, but we might. I hope not,' he said.Latest data from the DoH showed that more than 700 new Covid-19 infections were registered on April 27. The seven-day positivity rate in the National Capital Region climbed to 14.3 percent although hospital utilization remains low.
