RECOGNIZING the crucial role of the media in keeping the government in check and combating misinformation, President Ferdinand Marcos has vowed to keep the country safe for journalists.

Presiding at the mass oath-taking Tuesday of six media organizations, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. cited their key role in reporting the true state of things and keeping the government in the “right direction.” He committed to back initiatives to expose “fake news.

In his speech at the event, Marcos underscored how media practitioners are able to help address problems in government operations and keep it in the “right direction.” “We have filed cases against suspects, our law enforcement agencies continue to work hard to bring other perpetrators to justice,” Marcos said. “So, listen to everything. Don’t shoot the messenger. If they really believe what they’re saying, then think about it, maybe they are right,” Marcos said.
