House Senior Deputy Majority Leader and Ilocos Norte Rep. Ferdinand Alexander Araneta Marcos III explains his decision to be the first to sign the impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte, citing her alleged threats against his family and the President. He also addresses allegations of fund releases being offered in exchange for signatures and emphasizes the Senate's role in the impeachment process.
Maricel Cruz, House Senior Deputy Majority Leader and Ilocos Norte Rep. Ferdinand Alexander Araneta Marcos III, stated that people should not be surprised by his being the first to sign the impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte . He explained that the threats made by the Vice President against his father, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., his mother, First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos, and Speaker Ferdinand Martin G.
Romualdez in November, which were widely circulated on social media, prompted his decision. Marcos emphasized that such statements cannot be taken lightly, especially from someone in a high position. He likened the situation to someone threatening to dig up his grandfather's remains and throw them in the West Philippine Sea, stating that a reasonable person would be surprised if he didn't sign the complaint. Regarding the Vice President's denial of making the threats, Marcos asserted that the truth is apparent. He further explained that President Marcos Jr. advised him to fulfill his duty as a congressman and uphold his oath to the Constitution. Marcos stressed that signing the impeachment complaint was his constitutional obligation as an elected representative. He denied spearheading any movement or pressuring anyone to sign, stating that the overwhelming majority of signatories did so voluntarily. He noted that over 240 House members had signed as of Friday, exceeding the required one-third. Marcos dismissed allegations of fund releases being offered in exchange for signatures as part of a smear campaign by the DDS (Duterte Diehard Supporters). He affirmed that the decision to sign the complaint was made solely based on the seriousness of the alleged threats. He concluded by stating that the Senate now has the responsibility to consider the impeachment complaint and that their decision will determine the course of action
